About Me

GDC Number:

I currently work in a busy GP practice as their Office Administrator/Line Manager and run the financial and patient care side of the service while I took a career break when I moved from the Western Isles to the mainland.
I will be leaving Aberdeenshire in March 2016 and relocating to Perthshire where I am returning to Dental Nursing.  My previous nursing working environments were busy, quick paced practices where I worked with both seasoned Dentists and VTs for ten years and have worked locum shifts with a lovely Private Dentists in Kyle of Lochalsh during their take over.

Experience

Office Administrator/Line Manager

June, 2014  -  present
NHS Grampian
Banff & Gamrie Medical Practice

In this post I have been able to expand on my experience of running a busy, medical office. Main duties here are to do with our 3000+ patients attending for their chronic disease reviews, ensuring production of claim forms for enhanced services and that all details for patient treatments were met accurately and in an efficient manner so that the practice would be paid the appropriate remuneration on time.
Checking through areas we could improve upon and chase things such as medications not given, or conditions not coded. I was in charge of an admin team and was responsible for providing the doctors and nursing practitioners with heir rotas and arrangements for various clinics as well as the booking ad procurement of locums in advance/short notice for continuation of service provision.
General IT/Printer fixer.
I have in this role had he opportunity to be involved in the recruitment process, helping conduct several interviews and appoint posts.
I have experience with SSTS Software for payroll and am responsible for making sure everyone is paid.
I am the practice’s Adult Basic Life Support trainer.

Dental Nurse

August, 2012  -  December, 2012
Jan Overmeer Dental Practice
Kyle of Lochalsh

Covering annual leave as a dental nurse in the employ of a Private Dentist performing both NHS and Private work. I was delighted to have this opportunity to help provide cover here given the lack of dental nursing opportunities available in this remote area.
They were still using paper charting at the time I was assisting.

Receptionist/Dispenser/Administrator & Domestic

June, 2012  -  June, 2014
NHS Highland
Glenelg Health Centre

I held three positions at this GP Practice. Until May 2013, I worked as the practice receptionist and domestic, before my colleague retired and I became the Dispenser/Administrator for the practice.
Rural GP Surgery where my role involved Appointment making, referral sending, and keeping track of our financial details pertaining to the practice. Dispensing of patient medications, dosette boxes, handing of patient charges and prescriptions. Stock rotation and taking, orders and returns. Tracking of INR/Warfarin patients for bloods and result checking as well as for audit purposes. Ensuring yearly and 6 monthly checks for our chronic disease patients and ensuring each facet of the system was used appropriately to ensure we met our targets and the budget and contract conformed to. Maintenance of patient confidentiality was incredibly important.

Dental Nurse

July, 2009  -  May, 2012
NHS Western Isles
Bayhead Dental Clinic

As with Liniclate Dental Clinic in Benbecula.
I worked with both Private and NHS Dentists in this practice, both in the clinic and community. Took part in the NDIP program three years running and covered the entire Western Isles with two of my Dentists.
Regularly assisted in the training of new dental nurses. Dealt with finance at the reception desk for both Private and NHS payments, dealt with patient complaints/compliments, appointments and patient correspondence. Stock taking and re-ordering were part of my duties too.

I had been aiming to join the radiography training course however it did not come to a local area for training while I was still with the practice.

Extensive use of Exact and digital Xray (Kodak).

Town practice, with Rural outreach practice located first in Tarbert, then in Scalpay. Used to travelling between differently ran practices and being able to adapt.

Domestic

April, 2005  -  September, 2005
NHS Western Isles
Uist & Barra Hospital

Working as part of the NHS Domestics in daily routine and deep cleaning of the Hospital and Clinical environment.

Dental Nurse

July, 2004  -  July, 2009
NHS Western Isles
Liniclate Dental Clinic

Hands on patient care, clinical and surgical assistance. Cross infection control/disinfection of instruments and equipment. Administration duties, including reception work, receipt of money and referral checks. Working closely with visiting locums and consultants as well as newly graduated VT dentists, providing chair side support and administrative help. Running of rural orthodontic clinic, providing nursing assistance, dictation and sole administrative duties throughout.
Training of new dental nurses to the practice.
Being a rural area, we were expected to cover at other practices in both North and South Uist when the need arose. I am used to travelling between very differently run clinics and am quick to adapt to changes required.
Still paper charting at Base practice, however use of R4 in South Uist which I have some experience in.
(Have recently spent some time visiting with a practice here in Banff where I have been observing their use of R4 after their upgrade)
