Ruth qualified in 2004 from Bart's & The Royal London School of Medicine & Dentistry as a Dental Hygienist & Dental Therapist, receiving the Ash Award for the highest grade in final examinations and The Old Londoners Award for most supportive student.
In 2015 she became a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy after obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education with Merit at Plymouth University where she is a Lecturer in Community Based Dentistry. She is also a Member of the Faculty of Dental Trainers RCSEd and an external subject examiner for the diploma in Dental Hygiene and Therapy and BSc in Oral Health at Queen Mary University of London.

Postgraduate studies have led to competency in Inhalation Sedation and she has undertaken training with BASCD to perform epidemiological screening for Oral Health Surveys.

Ruth's career in the dental profession commenced as a dental nurse in 1996, specialising in dental nursing for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. As a Dental Hygienist & Therapist Ruth has experience of working in general practice, private practice, specialist hospitals and the community dental service; whilst in these roles she treated a wide variety of patients including children, adults, dental phobics and those with special needs.

Ruth currently divides her working week between NHS & Private practice, Clinical Supervision of undergraduate dentists and dental hygiene & therapy students and lecturing at Peninsula Dental School.
